Nominations for the Derby Telegraph Business Awards closed on Friday 2 March and applications are now in the hands of category sponsors who will have the unenviable task of selecting three finalists for each of the 14 categories.

Accompanying their support of the awards as headline sponsors, full-service law firm, Smith Partnership, are also placing sponsorship behind the Employer of the Year category – an award which seeks to honour businesses who invest themselves into their employees’ welfare and wellbeing.

Over their years of business – the firm celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2017 –  Smith Partnership have helped clients with every aspect of their legal needs, from buying a house to selling a multi-million-pound business, and everything in between.

Russell Davies is the Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Smith Partnership and explained their association with the Employer of the Year award.

He said: “Our business, like any service orientated undertaking, relies heavily on great staff.  However, great staff aren’t just born, they are the result of a partnership between employer and employee. For us, the Employer of the Year category was an obvious one to support.”

Speaking of the ways in which the firm has, and continues to, contribute to the business community Russell said: “Throughout our thirty years in business, we have operated across the East Midlands, helping clients wherever they are based.  We have recently been obliged to look for new offices for our Derby headquarters, and were very keen to remain in the city centre.”

He continued: “Fortunately, we managed to achieve that end, and will be moving to our new offices shortly.  This reflects our commitment to our local business community.  We support many local enterprises, such as Marketing Derby, in our efforts to increase the business in the region.”

Despite having a long-standing presence in the region, the firm always look to the future, and Russell was keen to share the firm’s plans for the coming months: “Our aim is to continue to provide great service and exceed our clients’ expectations.  Our move to new offices is likely to take up a considerable amount of time, but we are very focused on making that new office a great place to work. We hope our clients also like the design of our new office.”
